Attn: CATIAHotline PLM’er,
One of the biggest complaints that is out there for CATIA V5 is that when you ‘Double Click’ the Icon to start it up it takes FFFFFFOOOOOORRRRRRREEEEEVVVVVEEEERRRR to start. There are a few things we can do to make it go faster.
The first thing we can do is limit the number of License servers you have in your i4ls.ini file. One of the things that CATIA is doing is trying to figure out what to present to you. Different things are needed for and MD2 vs. a SL3. Also do you have any ‘Shared’ licenses that can be offered. These all need to be available for you to select. If you have more that one license server listed in the i4ls.ini file CATIA will go to each server and get a listing of what licenses are on that server and store them in it’s memory.
On that note if you can use an IP Address vs. a hostname that would take out an extra step. There by allowing CATIA to go from the client directly to the server and not having to resolve a hostname. Now I agree that this will not save mass amounts of time but it helps out.
If you use Admin Mode and lock down the license selection it will allow CATIA not to have to decide what license’s to try to make available to you.
That should help out for now. Next week we will do few more things to try to make it start faster.
