CATIA PLM Weekly Email 0734 – Making CATIA Less of a Graphics Hog via CATSettings

Attn: CATIAHotline PLM’er,

As we all know CATIA is a Graphics Hog!!! One user came up to me the other day and stated. “When I rotate my model it Jerks around but when so and so does the same thing it is smooth. Well the first thing of course that comes to my mind is “Well you are probably working in a Large Model with a Slow machine” Well even though she was working in a large model there are a few things we can do to make it go smoother.

My Favorite thing to turn off is the Graduated Back ground. For those of you that don’t know what that is. The Graduated Background is the Background for the CATParts/CATProducts that starts as Dark at the top and gradually becomes light at the bottom. Below are the before and after of the Selection in the Tools -> Options Panel -> General -> Display -> Visualization. In the Colors Section uncheck Graduated Background.

Here are a few others that I found on the Net:

General category, Performance tab:
deactivate occlusion culling
level of details (static) = 1 to 1.2
level of details (while moving) = 10 to 11
General category, Visualization tab:
deactivate pre-select highlighting (Only use if your Performance is really bad)
deactivate the manipulation bounding box
Product category, Cache Management tab:
work with cache management
cache size = 600MB
Selecting View->Render Style->Shading to work with shading without edges will also enhance performance.
